Cookie Policy
What we store on your device, why, and how to control it.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember things about you — like that you're logged in, or what's in your cart — across page loads and visits. Some are essential. Some are optional.
2. Categories of cookies we use
Strictly necessary (always on)
These are required for BiryaniHub to function. Without them, you can't log in, place orders, or maintain a session.
- token — JWT auth token, allows you to stay logged in (localStorage, not a true cookie but functions similarly)
- role — your account type (customer / vendor / admin) for routing
- biryani_cart — your shopping cart contents (localStorage)
Functional
Improve your experience but the site works without them.
- vendor_name — caches the vendor's display name for instant header rendering on slow networks
- UI preferences (theme, recently-viewed)
Analytics (optional)
Help us understand which features matter. You can opt out.
- [GA4 / Plausible / Vercel Analytics — populate when configured]
Marketing (optional)
We currently do not use marketing or advertising cookies. We do not share data with ad networks for cross-site retargeting.
3. Third-party services that may set cookies
- Google Maps / Places — when an embedded map renders, Google may set its own cookies subject to Google's privacy policy
- Stripe (when checkout uses card payments) — sets cookies for fraud detection
- Cloudflare / hosting — may set load-balancing cookies for anti-DDoS
4. How to control cookies
In your browser
All major browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies through Settings. Note: blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in or placing orders.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
On BiryaniHub
When we add optional analytics or marketing cookies, you'll see a consent banner on first visit with the option to accept all, reject all, or customize. You can revisit your choices via Settings → Privacy. [LEGAL REVIEW: confirm consent banner rollout matches GDPR/ePrivacy requirements]
5. Do Not Track
BiryaniHub respects browser-level "Do Not Track" signals where technically feasible — we won't load optional analytics or marketing cookies if your browser sends DNT.
6. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when we add or remove cookies. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version.
